The eye is in the shape of a ball. For its proper functioning the pressure inside the eye must be at a certain level. The pressure is maintained by the ingress and egress of fluids, when there is a misbalances the pressure inside the eye can rise and cause Glaucoma. The high pressure can damage the optic nerve and cause blindness. However, since the blindness affects peripheral vision first, the patient may not realize the damage in his field of vision till late stages. Hence glaucoma is called the "Silent thief of sight".
